Part 2 - Don’t Allow Your Dreams, Passion & Purpose Go To the Grave with You!
Hopefully you saw my previous blog post and if you did not, you must go check it out here. This is part 2 of that discussion, but this time we are going to dive into the ‘How’. How exactly are you connecting and growing your business or putting yourself in position to receive that promotion or go to the next level God has for you? We are going to expand on the previous point made regarding accountability partners and what is the process of obtaining that circle of trust.
Below I will highlight three specific things you can do to begin to build that circle of trust and accountability:
Consider joining business Facebook groups. Many of these groups are discoverable by simply following some of the people you already admire and may strive to get to where they are. Success did not happen overnight for most Millionaires or top level executives. There was work they had to put in and relationships they had to build. Business Facebook groups are an awesome way to begin building those relationships. Now, be careful of how many groups you join. First, you don’t want to join so many groups that they become a distraction and keep you from executing. Secondly, you want to be able to genuinely participate and engage in the group. Most of these type of groups are private groups, so you may need to request membership, so respect that process. It’s perfectly okay if you join a group, watch the feed for a while and decide that’s not the group for you, remove yourself from the group. Or, if you find you are the only one that consistently are engaging and being supportive, then leave that group.
Connect with a ‘Mastermind’ group. Mastermind groups are typically small, maybe between 5 – 10 people and 10 may be a little on the high side. It will all depend on the person(s) who is managing the group, most Mastermind groups are meant to be small and intimate to allow for sharing. A Mastermind group is a group of individuals that challenge each other to write the vision, implement action steps and support one another in each other’s endeavors. You may even have an opportunity to bounce your business product or idea to the group for constructive criticism. The beautiful thing about Mastermind groups is the group will consist of people from various industries and backgrounds to challenge your way of thinking.
If you are engaged in any social media platform, especially Periscope (because it is live)…engage, engage, and engage! Take the time to leave comments, share (by tweeting or reposting on your social media) something that person said that resonates with you. This is exactly how I was able collaborate with The Pinkpreneur Network as well as Hoopstv which you can read more about by clicking on the links. It’s important to pay attention to those call to actions you hear when watching those you follow on social media. You can only grow by learning, reaching out and collaborating.
EXTRA! EXTRA! Here’s my bonus….join a Ministry, Board or Committee. Now this takes a different level of commitment and time. The first 3 above allows you to sit behind a computer or telephone to engage in business discussions. However, being involved in a Ministry, Board or Committee means you have to physically show up and make eye contact. Let’s not lose the art of person-to-person communication and become so desensitized that all of our communication is via social media. No one truly know who you are sitting behind a computer or phone screen.
The point of it all is to get you outside of your comfort zone! You need to get those ideas out of your head and talk about it, preferably with a trusted group of people that God leads you to. Whatever you do, be sure to guard your heart, mind and spirit. Just because it looks good, does not always mean it’s good for you.
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive” (1 Corinthians 10:23, NIV)
