Earlier this year, I talked about dreams, passion and purpose and I wanted to revisit that blog again. It's now August, what many term 'new beginnings'. We all have something inside of us that is screaming to get out, but what will set you apart from those that do not walk out their gifts and talents? Or, will you allow fear, procrastination or even laziness stifle what is inside of you and leave this earth without at least giving it a try?
It’s a rhetorical question, but do you have dreams, passion, purpose that you have inside of you? I encourage you not to let the grave be the place where it is “revealed”. There are a few things I’d like to share and encourage you to do to help you move from and break the spirit of complacency, stagnation, retrogression, delay and denial from your life. There are three specific things you can do to begin moving in the right direction:
Write the vision and make it plain (Habakkuk 2:2, NIV). Get that thought out of your head! How many of you are walking around “thinking” about what you should be doing or that collaboration you should seek out or that job you should apply for, even that school you should enroll in or that business you are supposed to start. Don’t worry about those thoughts being organized, just write it down. As a matter of fact, keep a notebook or if you use an app like Evernote, keep it with you everywhere at all times. Once you have it written, now begin to seek God’s face and pray on those things and ask God to remove anything from that list that will not bring him Glory. As you get clarification, then it’s time to act on those things!
Get yourself an accountability partner. An accountability partner is someone that will hold you accountable for those things you said you will do. Your accountability partner does not have to be doing the same thing you are doing or in the same industry as you. You will be amazed if you connect with someone that isn’t doing a mirror image of what you are doing, how much that person(s) will challenge your thoughts? Why, because they may not fully understand what it is you are trying to accomplish. At the same token, you can have accountability partners that are in the same industry as you, but just make sure you are being challenged in that relationship, every idea you have is not golden. Consider joining various business groups, organizations to gain additional knowledge where you are lacking.
Once you have established your accountability partner(s), be sure you are checking in frequently. My accountability partners are not local, they both live in different states. For us, what works is constant communication daily either via text or voice messaging each other. In addition, we just began the process of meeting collectively once a month by phone to discuss our accomplishments and those things we are working on. When you have scheduled meetings with your accountability partner(s) have an agenda! It’s very easy to get off topic and begin talking about everything else outside of the purpose of your ‘Check-In’. Set an agenda and time your discussions, this will keep you on track and help you stay focused. God’s word says that we should do all things in decency and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40, KJV).
I truly hope this encouraged you to start to walk in your God given purpose. There is a part 2 to this, stay tuned for next week’s blog post! If this resonates with you in any way, please comment below and please share this by clicking the share link below. Thank You!
